Reviewer verdict

Across 20 YouTube reviews, the Canon EOS RP earns a Summa score of 3.5/5, ranking #49 among Mirrorless Cameras. Reviewers most often praise its build quality and design, image quality, video capabilities, while the most common criticisms concern video capabilities, build quality and design.

The Canon EOS RP's greatest strength is its incredible value, providing an accessible entry point into the full-frame ecosystem. Reviewers consistently praise its 26MP full-frame sensor for delivering excellent still image quality, beautiful Canon colors, and strong low-light performance. Its compact, lightweight body doesn't compromise on comfort, featuring a deep grip and excellent ergonomics that feel great in the hand. The reliable Dual Pixel autofocus is fast and accurate for photos and 1080p video, and the fully articulating touchscreen is a major benefit for vloggers and creative shooting angles. With good connectivity like microphone and headphone jacks, it stands out as a superb, user-friendly choice for photographers wanting the full-frame look without the high cost or bulk.

The Canon EOS RP's primary weakness is its heavily compromised video implementation, particularly in 4K. This mode suffers from a significant crop, disabling the praised Dual Pixel autofocus in favor of a slow contrast-detect system and exhibiting severe rolling shutter. Other major drawbacks include the complete absence of in-body image stabilization, forcing reliance on stabilized lenses, and poor battery life that necessitates carrying spares. Furthermore, its continuous shooting speed is too slow for sports or fast action, and the sensor's dynamic range is limited, producing noticeable noise when recovering shadow detail in RAW files.
